Hash Gets
Athlete of the Week
Women's soccer player Rebekah
Hash was chosen by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference
as its Women's Athlete of the Week for the week ending
on Nov. 15.
Hash,
who won the PCC's Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008, helped
the Knights secure a 1-0 home win against Imperial
Valley in the final match of the season by saving a
penalty kick.
Hash recorded six saves
in a 2-0 loss at Palomar. Two of those saves came on
full-extension punches and another came on a one-on-one
situation where she stopped the Palomar attacker.

Early Goals Are
Difference In Knights' 2-1 Loss
The women's soccer team gave up two
goals in the first 24 minutes as they struggled to contain
Miramar's offense and eventually lost, 2-1.
Miramar was on the attack early and
often as they forced the Knights to bunker in on defense for
most of the game. In the 11th minute, Miramar's Bree Duckworth
scored off a rebound to give the Jets the early 1-0 lead.
Thirteen minutes later, Miramar's
Danica Caudillo found Ashley Moore inside the penalty area for
the easy goal and the 2-0 advantage.
Although the Knights were on
their heels the rest of the half, their defense stabilized and
kept Miramar out of the net.
In the 57th minute, the Knights
got back into to it with a goal by Vynessa Diblasio. The
Knights' Andrea Marin took the ball after Miramar's defense
could not clear it and found Diblasio who beat the Jets'
goalkeeper with a grounder on the left side.
Diblasio and Marin, both at the
forward positions, took pressure of the Knights' defense as they
became aggressive throughout the second half and desperately
tried for the equalizer, but couldn't get it.
Miramar had their own chances to
get separation from the Knights, but goalkeeper Rebekah Hash was
terrific in goal as she recorded 11 saves. Her athletic ability
was on display as she dove and jumped with her outstretched
hands to make fantastic stops.
The Knights record now moves to 4-8-3 overall and 2-6-2 in the
PCAC.

City Downed
by Grossmont, 1-0
The Knights appeared to be
headed for a tie, but Grossmont scored in the final
minutes to get the 1-0 win.
With both defenses playing
well throughout the match, the Knights still managed to
create quality opportunities. Unfortunately for them,
none of those chances led to goals. Knights' freshman
forward Kirra Adams had the best looks in the ninth and
67th minutes, but came away empty handed.
In the ninth minute,
Adams received a cross from Sarai Alvarado to the left
post, but Adam's header was a couple feet too wide. In
the 67th, Alvarado found Adams in front of the goal
again, but this time Grossmont's goalkeeper saved Adams'
shot.
It looked like the
Knights were about to secure their fourth tie of the
season, but in the 43rd minute, Grossmont's Elisa
Maganuco blasted in a cross pass from teammate Annie
Roberts that gave the Griffins the lead and the 1-0 win.

Knights
Suffer Tough 1-0 Loss To Mesa
SDCC's women's soccer team
held San Diego Mesa scoreless for most of the match, but
the Olympians, who are undefeated in the PCAC, got a
goal in the 80th minute to give them the 1-0 win.
The Knights (3-5-2, 1-4-1
PCC) came into Wednesday's match hoping to slow Mesa's
hot start to the season (9-1, 7-0 PCC), and did that for
the first 79 minutes as City put up a strong defensive
effort. The Knights were bunkered in for most of the
match as Mesa outshot them 21-9.
City, who was missing a key offensive threat in Sandy
Garcia due to injury, still managed to create some
scoring chances on counter-attacks. Unfortunately, they
weren't able to find the back of the net and in the 80th
minute, Mesa broke the scoreless tie as Mary McCormack
found herself with the ball inside the 6-yard box after
a fortuitous bounce and knocked it in.
Knights' goalkeeper
Rebekah Hash was stellar in the loss as she recorded 11
saves.

Knights
Hold Off Mira Costa, 1-0
Only one goal was needed by
the women's soccer team as they defeated Mira Costa,
1-0, for their first win in conference.
The lone goal came in the
16th minute as Andrea Marin headed the ball to Sandy
Garcia who controlled it with one touch and then shot it
past Mira Costa's goalkeeper on the right side.

Knights
Shutout Santa Monica
The women's soccer team earned
their second straight win after shutting out Santa
Monica, 3-0, Friday afternoon.
Sarai Alvarado scored her
second and third goals of the season. Midway through the
first half, Alvarado received the ball at the top of the
18-yard box and beat the goalkeeper with a powerful shot
that bounced off her hands and into the net.
Just before halftime, Amy
Mendoza's free kick from 35 yards out landed at the feet
of Kirra Adams who tapped in the ball for the Knights'
second goal of the day.
In the second half,
Alvarado struck again. This time she controlled a pass
from Andrea Marin at midfield and dribbled in from the
right side then hit the left corner of the net to seal
the victory.

Knights
Look Strong in 4-2 Win
In their home opener, the
women's soccer team dominated possession throughout the
match and the scoreboard reflected it as they defeated
Golden West, 4-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Sarai Alvarado got
things started for the Knights in the 12th minute as she
dribbled through the middle of the 18-yard box and found
the right corner for the goal. Just before the halftime
whistle, Rachelle Padilla set up Andrea Marin for an
easy lob shot over Golden West's goalkeeper.
The Knights went ahead
3-0 in the 52nd minute after Amy Mendoza's free kick
eventually made its way to Kirra Adams for goal.
Golden West scored two
minutes later, but the Knights returned the favor
In the 73rd minute,
Mendoza came up for another free kick, this time from 30
yards out. Her ball caromed off the right post and Sandy
Garcia, who was waiting in front of the goal, put it in.
Golden West got a late
goal, but it was not enough. The Knights improved to 1-1
on the season.
