Knights Off to Best Start Since 2010 After Sweeping IVC

The Knights completed a series sweep of Imperial Valley on Saturday with an 11-4 victory. The Knights are now 10-5 overall and 3-0 to start the PCAC season.

First baseman Jonathon Sandberg went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Shortstop Isaiah Blanco also went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

After falling behind 4-0 in the 2nd inning, the Knights responded with four runs in the 3rd inning and three in the 4th to take a 7-4 lead.

Bryan Reyes came home to score City's first run of the game on Isaiah Blanco's RBI double. Blanco then scored on a wild pitch. Sandberg singled in two more runs to tie the game at 4-4.

The Knights loaded the bases in the fourth inning for Joey Wozniak, who earned a RBI walk to give the Knights the lead. A passed ball led to another run, and then Nolan Burr hit a sacrifice fly to put the Knights ahead, 7-4.

Both teams hit a dry spell over the next four innings, but the Knights' bats woke up in the 9th inning and added four insurance runs highlighed by a Cal Knowlton RBI double and a Reyes RBI single.

Starting pitcher Anders Tolhurst earned the win after going eight innings with 11 strikeouts.

The Knights have won 13 straight over Imperial Valley. City's last loss to the Arabs came on March 5, 2015.

The 10-5 start is City's best since 2010 when they were 12-3 after 15 games. The Knights finished 27-9 overall that season and won the PCAC championship with a 19-6 record.
