Knights Extend Win Streak to Three With 4-3 Win Over Grossmont
The Knights extended their winning streak to three after holding on for a 4-3 home victory over Grossmont. Starting pitcher Andrew Macmahon (3-4) earned the win after going 7.2 innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits whilel striking out three.
Ryan McClanahan went 3-for-4 with on RBI and two runs. Fabian Cosio went 2-for-3 with with two RBI.
The Knights broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth on McClanahan's RBI single. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Cosio grounded out, but was able to bring in McClanahan to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Back-to-back RBI hits in the bottom of the sixth gave the Knights a 4-0 advantage. With two outs, J.P. Rios hit a double down the left field line that scored McClanahan. Cosio followed with a single up the middle that brought Rios in for what turned out to be the winning run.
Grossmont scored their first run in the seventh and then added two more runs in the eighth on an throwing error by catcher McClanahan that allowed Kyle Holder to score, and an RBI triple by Curren Facer.
Brent Daugherty relieved Macmahon after that triple and retired Grossmont's final four batters to earn his first save of the season.
It was the Knights' first win over Grossmont this year. Grossmont (24-10, 16-7 PCAC), who will finish in second place in the PCAC, won the season series vs. the Knights, 4-1.
The Knights are 13-17 overall and 11-12 in conference. With two more games remaining in their season, the Knights will be looking finish above .500 in the PCAC.
They are at Southwestern on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and at home vs. Palomar at 2 p.m. in the season finale.
