Knights End Losing Streak With Shutout of MSJC
The SDCC baseball team snapped a six-game losing streak on Saturday with a 2-0 home victory over Mt. San Jacinto in the PCAC opener. Pitchers Anthony Parise and Eric Tek combined for the shutout, allowing nine hits and four walks with two strikeouts.
In the bottom of the first inning, Jp Rios led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. He moved over to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Lee and then scored the Knights' first run of the game on an infield hit by Gabriel Santana.
Starting pitcher Anthony Parise got into some trouble in the third inning when he loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a single, but managed to get out of the jam by getting the following two Mt. San Jacinto batters to hit into a fly out and a ground out to end the inning.
The Knights got their insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Rios came home on another infield hit. This time it was Geordy Smith who came through with a hit up the middle that caromed off MSJC pitcher Austin Bowker.
Parise earned the win after throwing the first 5.1 innings and giving up six hits and three walks. Eric Tek relieved him in the sixth inning and pitched the rest of the game to earn the save. He allowed three hits and struck out two.
SDCC improved to 3-7 on the season and 1-0 in the PCAC. Next for the Knights is a road game at Grossmont on Tuesday, Feb. 25.Box Score
