Knights Rout IVC 18-0 For 3rd Straight Win
The Knights (8-22, 6-15 PCAC) had their best performance of the season on Friday as they recorded 27 hits en route to an 18-0 win over Imperial Valley (4-27, 3-18 PCAC). It was the third straight victory over the Arabs this week. The Knights also beat them, 3-1, on Tuesday, and 9-1 on Thursday.
The Knights' lead-off hitter Raymond Jones capped off an impressive week by going 6-for-6 with a triple, two RBI, and three runs. Catcher Joseph Lavin and left fielder Anthony Phillips each went 4-for-5 with two RBI on the day.
The Knights' bats were on fire from the get-go as they started the bottom of the first inning with four straight singles. Unfortunately, they weren't able to score any runs off those hits, but the drought wouldn't last very long.
SDCC scored two runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead. The Knights scored another three runs in the fifth inning and then turned the game into a rout with five runs in the sixth inning.
Henry Grow drove in the first run of that inning on a fielder's choice. Joshua Burns later brought in Grow on an infield hit. Then with the bases loaded, Bobby Martinez had an RBI single through the left side which was followed by a 2-RBI double by James McKenrick to give the Knights a dominating 14-0 lead.
City put an exclamation point on the day with four more runs in the seventh inning.
Starting pitcher Brien Grant (2-1) earned the win after allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three in six innings of work.
After a bye week, the Knights will wrap up the 2014 season with a 3-game series against Mesa beginning on Tuesday, April 22. The only home game for the Knights during that series will be on April 24 at 2 p.m.Box Score
