Knights To Play Pasadena in 1st Round; Aguilar-Montalban and Powell Named Coach of the Year and MVP


Not only did the Knights go an undefeated 8-0 in the PCAC South to claim their second consecutive conference championship, but they also qualified for the post season for the second straight year and will travel to Pasadena on Wednesday to take on the No. 14 Lancers at 7 p.m.

The Knights, who earned the No. 19 seed, have a 13-13 overall record and have won eight of their last nine games. Pasadena City went 17-13 overall and finished fourth in the South Coast-North. 

The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to play No. 3 Mt. San Jacinto on Saturday. 

In addition to the release of the CCCAA tournament bracket, the Knights also received great news from the PCAC South as it announced that Andrea Aguilar-Montalban has been named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row and that sophomore point guard E'maniee Powell has been chosen as the conference's Most Valuable Player. 

Breeana Gafare, Angeleah Johnson, and Mariah Wonders were selected to the All-PCAC South first team, while Desire Prado was picked for the second team. 

Elliot Nixon and Kiley Pope earned honorable mention. 

Aguilar-Montalban' Knights have earned back-to-back conference titles by going 14-2 in the PCAC South the last two seasons. 

Powell averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while running the Knights' offense. She made a team-best 41 3-pointers and averaged 1.5 steals per game.
