Knights Get 1st Place at Coach Downey Classic With 5 In Top 15


The San Diego City College men's cross country team won first place at the Coach Downey Classic on Friday with five Knights finishing in the top 15, including Edwin Mejia who came in seventh place. 

Mejia crossed the finish line of the 4-mile course at Morley Field with his fastest time of the season (21:29.7). Right behind Mejia was Jose Sandez who came in ninth place with a time of 21:38.3.

Andres Zamudio was the third SDCC runner that made the top 10 with a time of 21:40.6

Jose Nobles (21:48.5) and Jorge Tejada (21.50.8) crossed the line in 13th and 14th place, respectively, to make the Knights the only team at the meet with more than three runners in the top 15. 

As a team, the Knights won the race by scoring 42 points, 14 ahead of second-place Santa Ana (56). Long Beach finished third with 73 points. 

The Knights will host a dual meet against Imperial Valley, once again at Morley Field, on Friday, October 6 at 3 p.m.
