Knights Qualify For Regionals With 5th Place Finish At PCAC Championship

Led by an all-conference performance from freshman Joanna Lopez (8th place in 20:39), the Knights secured a 5th place finish at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship on Friday. This marks the team's first visit to the Southern California Regional Championship since 2013.

"I am elated for the team," said Head Coach Marco Anzures. "Every single runner ran a significant personal best, and without that commitment to run their best, the team would not have qualified for the next round. The other teams in our conference stepped up and also ran very well."

Running key races for the Knights were sophomore Viridiana Ayala (23rd in 23:35) and freshman Rachael Morales (42nd in 26:31). Lopez earned her first set of all-conference honors by placing 8th overall in the race.

"We talk a lot about how we create our own 'luck' and how it is product of preparation plus opportunity," Anzures said. "They took advantage today and the result speaks for itself."
