Lopez Nearly Gets Personal Best Time at State Championship

The San Diego City College women's cross country program capped off a stellar season by sending freshman Joanna Lopez to the CCCAA Championship in Fresno, CA. Lopez's qualification for the meet represented only the second time since 2000 that a Knight had competed in the championship meet. Lopez continued her strong freshman campaign by placing 93rd overall in a time of 20:44, only five seconds off her personal and season's best.

"Joanna has been such a solid performer and valuable member of our team this year," said Head Coach Marco Anzures. "She has been wonderful to work with and she only has great things to come for her as she continues to get stronger and gain experience.

"We talked about having to get out fast at this meet and she committed to that, no questions asked. Her attitude all season was representative of the team as a whole. Her success is the team's success and vice versa."

The Knights will be celebrating their season with an awards ceremony and banquet on Saturday, December 9th at Eclipse Chocolate in South Park from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Supporters of the program are welcome to attend by RSVPing with Coach Marco at by Sunday, December 3rd.
