Knights Trounce Imperial Valley, 7-1

The Knights earned their second home win of the season on Friday with a 7-1 trouncing of Imperial Valley. Jesus Varela and Angel Campos each scored twice to help the Knights improve to 3-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the PCAC.

City got the scoring started early with a goal from Avelino Morales, his first of the season, in the third minute with the assist by Mouhamed Al Hibyan.

That would be the lone goal of the first half, but it didn't take much time for the Knights to strike again in the second half. Al Hibyan set up Abraham Rodriguez in the 49th minute for his fourth goal of the year.

Imperial Valley scored their first and only goal in the 65th minute by Luis Estrada. Three minutes later, Jesus Varela scored the first of his back-to-back goals to give the Knights a 3-1 lead. Varela put another one into the back of the net, his fourth of the season, in the 74th to put City ahead 4-1.

Angel Campos scored his second and third goals of the year 69 seconds apart in the 82nd and 83rd minutes and Erwin Hampton added City's seventh goal of the day in the 90th to put an exclamation point on the big win.

The Knights will be on the road next week with games at Cuyamaca on Tuesday and at San Bernardino Valley on Friday.
