Rojas Nets 3 in 4-0 Win Over IVC

The San Diego City College women's soccer team snapped a 7-game winless streak with a 4-0 home victory over Imperial Valley. Sylvia Rojas scored three goals and assisted on the fourth.

Rojas' stellar performance began with a goal 36 seconds into the match. The Knights pushed the ball up into the box and Rojas took a ball from Sarah Marshall and put it past Imperial Valley's goalkeeper.

In the 10th minute, Rojas dribbled down the right side and fired a shot into the back of the net to give City the quick 2-0 lead.

Then, just before the halftime whistle, Melissa Valadez found Rojas for her third goal of the game to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. It was her 11th goal of the season and it is the second time this season that she has recorded a hat trick in a game. The previous time came in a 5-2 win at Imperial Valley on September 22.

The final goal of the game occurred in the 47th minute when Francesca Bevacqua headed in her sixth goal of the season after a cross from Rojas.

City goalkeeper Veronika Castillo recorded one save in her third shutout win of the year. She currently has 148 saves on the season, which is the most in the state.

The Knights have three more games remaining, two of which are at home. The Knights host Southwestern on Friday at 3 p.m., then play at Mesa on November 7, and will wrap up the season at home against Cuyamaca on Friday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
