Knights Win On Gonzalez' Walk-Off Hit


The Knights ended their 5-game losing streak on Wednesday when Nicole Gonzalez' bloop single to right field in the bottom of the seventh gave them the 2-1 victory over visiting Rio Hondo.

Knights' starting pitcher Dena Young struck out 10 while allowing only one hit in four total innings. After pitching the first two innings, Young was replaced by Gonzalez who threw three innings. Gonzalez allowed one unearned run on four hits. 

Young came back in the the sixth inning and look refreshed as she struck out six of the last seven batters.

In the bottom of the seventh with the game tied at 1-1, Shaakirah Ransom reached base with a walk. She then stole second base and got to third base on a passed ball. After Jenea Marjama grounded out, Gonzalez came up to the plate and hit a bloop single down the right field line that scored Ransom for the win. 

Gonzalez went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Jenna Howell had the other RBI in the fourth inning on a single up the middle that scored Nicole Samida.
