Knights Get a 7-2 Home Win Over SBVC

The San Diego City College softball team got back in the win column with a 7-2 home victory over San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday. Freshman catcher Taylor Hodge went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Hodge put the Knights on the board first with an infield hit in the bottom of the first inning that allowed Carley Grant to score from third base.

With runners in scoring position in the third inning, Hodge came through with another RBI as her squeeze bunt helped Grant score the Knights second run of the game.

San Bernardino got a run in the top of the 4th on a bases loaded walk, but the Knights responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. Heather Clough and Jozy Vazquez hit back-to-back RBI singles, then Grant tripled in City's third run of the inning.

The Knights added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Alexis Gonzalez hit an RBI triple and later scored on the throw to second base during Meli Memea's steal attempt.

San Bernardino's lead-off batter came around to score on a ground out, but that was all City pitcher Kimberly Figueroa would allow. She got the last two batters to ground out as well and earned her fifth win of the season. Figueroa allowed one earned run and had three strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Knights will play a doubleheader against Citrus (1 p.m.) and Pasadena (3:30 p.m.) on Friday. Both games will be played at Pasadena City College.

After traveling to Southwestern on Wednesday, April 18, they will play their final home game of the year against Desert on April 20 at 1 p.m.
