Knights Shutout Desert in Final Home Game

The Knights concluded their 2018 home schedule with a 7-0 victory over College of the Desert on Friday afternoon. Freshman pitcher Ava Kopperschlager struck out seven in her first complete shutout of the season.

Freshman catcher Taylor Hodge went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.

City's Alexis Gonzalez put the Knights on top early with an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the 1st. Meli Memea followed with a double to left field that scored Gonzalez to give the Knights a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Kopperschlager got into some trouble in the 2nd inning when Desert hit consecutive singles with one out, but got the next two batters to ground out and strike out to end the threat.

The Knights added to their lead with four more runs in the 4th inning. With two out and the bases loaded, Emily Hall hit a single up the middle that scored two to give City a 4-0 lead. Hodge came up next and hit a double to deep center field that brought in another two runs to give the Knights a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

Desert threatened in the top of the 6th with two runners on base with one out once again, but Kopperschlager got out of the jam with a ground out and a strike out.

The Knights scored one more run in the bottom of the 6th when Hodge hit another RBI-single to center field.

Kopperschlager gave up two hits in the top of the 7th, but she did not allow Desert to do anymore and won her fourth game of the season.

The Knights improved to 11-25 overall and 4-11 in the PCAC. Their final game of the year will be at Grossmont on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
