Shafer Gets No-Hitter; Knights Win 4th Straight
Sophomore Hannah Shafer has another stellar performance in the circle as she pitches a no-hitter in the Knights' 9-1 victory at Imperial Valley on Wednesday.
Shafer's teammates got her an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ashley Whitmore hit an RBI single that went passed the left fielder to the fence and she came around to score. The Knights then scored four runs in the top of the second inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Shafer helped her own cause by getting and RBI single. Later in the inning, Brittany Wright hit a 3-run inside the park home run.
Imperial Valley got their only run in the second inning off three infield errors and a passed ball. City added three more runs and forced the game to end after five innings.
For the second time in three starts Shafer has not allowed a ball to get passed the infield. The other time was in an 8-0 win over L.A. Pierce on Feb. 22 when Shafer completed a perfect game.
The Knights have now won four straight and improved their overall record to 8-8-1. They remain undefeated in the PCAC with a 3-0 record.
