Knights Hang On To Beat IVC, 8-6
The Knights staved off a late rally by Imperial Valley and went on to win, 8-6, on Wednesday. It was their third straight win in PCAC play.
Imperial Valley got off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Knights came right back with two runs in the second inning to gain a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Shaakirah Ransom and Dena Young each hit RBI singles to give City the lead.
The Knights busted the game open in the third inning after scoring five runs. Brittany Wright got the long inning started with a triple to center field. She then scored on an error by the shortstop that allowed Liz Vaca to reach base. Later in the inning, Nicole Samida hit a single to center field that scored two. Then, with two out and the bases loaded, Tatjiana Vidrio's single brought in two more runs for the Knights to give them a 7-1 lead.
The Arabs got back into the game by scoring three in the fifth inning, and after City got one more run in the bottom of the fifth off Wright's solo home run to left field, Imperial Valley got within two after a two-run home run by Camille Smith. Pitcher Dena Young, however, did not allow the Arabs another chance as she got the final batter to pop up.
Young pitched 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven.
