Shafer, Wright, Young Named to All-PCAC 1st Team
The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has selected Hannah Shafer, Brittany Wright and Dena Young to the 2011 All-PCAC First Team.
Shafer, a sophomore pitcher for the Knights, had an ERA of 1.60 and a record of 7-8 in 15 starts (21 appearances). She had three shutout victories and 10 complete games.
Wright, a freshman shortstop, finished second on the team in batting average (.368), first in home runs (5), first in doubles (16), first in runs (40) and had 20 RBI to go with 12 stolen bases.
Young, a sophomore pitcher, had a 9-9 record in 19 starts (25 appearances). She had a 2.88 ERA, a team-leading 83 strikeouts, nine complete games and two shutout wins.
Sophomore catcher Jenea Marjama was named to the All-PCAC Second Team. Marjama hit .292 with 31 total hits, including two home runs and three triples. She also recorded 17 RBI and 21 runs.
Jenna Howell and Ashley Whitmore were also included in the PCAC's post season awards as they were given Honorable Mention. Howell batted .355 with 38 hits and a team-leading six triples. She also had 17 RBI.
Whitmore led the Knights in batting average (.397) and RBI (25). She was second on the team in total hits (46) and doubles (9).
