Knights Get 8-0 Run Rule Victory Over Imperial Valley
The Knights used a 6-run fourth inning to end a scoreless tie and went on to win, 8-0, in five innings over visiting Imperial Valley on Tuesday afternoon.
Neither team was able to put any runs on the board through the first three innings, but the Knights finally broke through with a big fourth inning. Starting pitcher Paige Nicolet got things started with a lead-off single. McKenna Clarke brought her in with a double to left field and then came around to score after a throwing error by IVC's shortshop Natalie Martinez. Nicole Alvarado and Jonna Kollstrom followed with back-to-back singles and Nicole Clites earned a walk to load the bases. After a force out play at home, Aurora Tellez grounded out to second base, but brought in Kollstrom in the process to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. Alexa DaRosa doubled in two more runs and Lisa Pena capped the inning off with an RBI-single through the left side to extend the Knights' lead to 6-0.
Nicolet, meanwhile, was in a nice groove as she shut down IVC's offense. She only gave up three hits and one walk while striking out seven in five innings of work.
The Knights ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning by adding two more runs. Clites hit a single to left field that scored Karla Ferreira and Virginia Cox followed with a double that brought in the game-ending run.
