Knights Erase 3-Run Deficit to Beat Cuesta, 10-7
The Knights managed only one run in a 10-1 loss to Palomar a day earlier, but scored in every inning on Saturday to get back in the win column with a 10-7 home victory over Cuesta. Jazmine Hamme went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, while Amanda Muller (8-5) earned her eighth win of the season after allowing one earned run on nine hits with three strikeouts.
Two SDCC errors in the top of the first inning led to three runs for Cuesta, but the Knights erased that deficit in a hurry with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. The Knights loaded the bases and three consecutive walks to Jonna Kallstrom, Muller and McKenna Clarke tied the game at 3-3.
The Knights added another two runs in the second inning after an RBI single by Meghan Shaw and a sacrifice fly Hamme.
After scoring a run in each the third and fourth innings to go up 7-4, Hamme hit a triple to left field in the fifth inning that scored Alex Ross. Hamme was then brought home on Crystal Hernandez' sacrifice fly to give SDCC a 9-4 lead.
Katie Harris, who came into the game in the third, hit a double in the sixth inning that allowed her sister, Samantha Harris, to score from first base. It gave the Knights a 10-4 advantage going into the seventh inning, but Cuesta gave them a good scare in the final inning. Two errors led to three Cuesta runs and suddenly it was 10-7 with a runner on first and only one out, but Muller shut down Cuesta's hope for a comeback by getting the next two batters to pop out and fly out to end the game.
The win improved the Knights' overall record to 10-9-1.Box Score
