Thompkins/Canlapan Win First Round Match, Qualify For Regionals

In the first day of action at the 2011 PCAC Men's Tennis Tournament, the doubles team of Marlon Thompkins and Ronnel Canlapan won their opening round match against Palomar's Huey/Bryant, 7-6, 6-4.

They now advance to the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon and also qualify to play in the Southern California Regionals on May 5. This is the fifth consecutive year that a team under the direction of Head Coach Brandon Lupian has qualified for the Regionals.

Six different Knights competed in singles action. Canlapan (6-0, 6-2), Thompkins (6-4, 6-2) and Tobe Kernkamp (6-3, 6-0) all won their first round matches, but none advanced past the second round.
Will Contreras, Nate Anderson and Alex Torres were eliminated in the first round.
