Knights Dropped by Palomar, 3-0
The San Diego City College men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at Palomar on Wednesday with the set scores of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-12.
Palomar did a great job keeping the ball in play and forcing the Knights to make errors in the opening set. For the match, Palomar hit .279 and three of their players hit over .400. "Palomar came in with a great game plan," said Knights Head Coach Kevin Pratte. "They really forced us to earn our points and they did not make too many errors. Our team struggled tonight keep our attacks in play."
Set two was a very similar story for the Knights as Palomar continued to play error-free volleyball. Coach Pratte took the opportunity to get a lot of his players in the match during this kind of contest. "On a positive note we passed well tonight and all of our players got to see the floor," said Pratte. "Our players need to realize that every time they get to step on the floor it is an opportunity to shine."
The Knights picked up their energy and play in the third set. There were long exciting rallies and Yev Chernish made some great attacks. "Tonight Ian did a good job setting me in the back row," said Chernish. "I feel our team plays at a higher level when we are getting points from back row attacks."
Although the Knights have struggled to get a victory, there is a lot to be proud of this year. "We have a great group of guys," said Pratte. "Yev was accepted to nursing school, Ian is taking a recruiting trip to a Midwest college, and Mario is currently applying to USD. Our guys need to stay focused and work hard for the remaining part of the season."
The Knights will be back in action at home on Friday night against Grossmont College. The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
