Knights Dispatch Palomar in Four; Qualify for Postseason

The Knights capped off their most successful season in the history of the program with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 26-24) home victory over Palomar in the final game of the regular season. The win, which was their third straight and seventh in the last eight matches, gave them them the last bit of help they needed to qualify for the postseason.

The No. 15-seeded Knights will host a CCCAA Play-In round match on Saturday, November 19 against No. 18 Riverside at 7:00 p.m. It will be the first playoff match ever for the SDCC women's volleyball program.

City finished the regular season with a 16-9 record and a 7-3 PCAC South record, good for second place. Riverside had the same 16-9 overall record and was the Orange Empire Conference's fifth place team with a 10-6 record.

General admission for Saturday's game is $12. Admission for students with I.D., faculty, staff, senior citizens and children under 12 will be $8.

Playoff Bracket

In Wednesday night's regular season finale, Chloe Gruwell led the Knights with 21 kills and a season-high 32 digs. Lysette Serna recorded nine kills and 12 digs, while Kali Weires added 10 kills in the win.

After dropping the opening set, 23-25, to Palomar, the Knights responded with a 25-18 win in the second set and a 25-16 win in the third. City was in a tight battle in the fourth set and was in danger of having to play a fifth set when Palomar took a 24-21 lead, but the Knights rallied back by winning the next five points and escaped, 26-24, to claim the 3-1 victory.

Megan Kronschnabel had her best effort of the season as a setter with 45 assists off the bench. Libero Breanna Reid tallied 20 digs.
