Knights Advance to 2nd Round With 3-1 Win Over Cypress


The No. 13 seeded Knights went on the road Tuesday and upset No. 4 Cypress, 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-22), in the first round of the CCCAA playoffs. It was City's first ever postseason victory as they improved to an all-time best 22-3 on the season. 

Sophomore Lyssette Serna, who was named PCAC South Co-MVP last week, led the Knights' attack with 17 kills on 40 attempts with only three hitting errors. She also had 21 digs to make it her 16th game of the season with double figures in both kills and digs. 

Sophomore Shatha Julima recorded nine kills and 14 digs, while sophomore Alyssa Dincoff added eight kills and a team-high 22 digs. 

The Knights will travel to No. 5 L.A. Pierce on Saturday, November 25 for a second round playoff which is set for 6:30 p.m. 

General admission for Saturday's match is $12. Admission for faculty, staff, children under 12 and seniors is $8.

The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the Elite Eight which will be held at Solano College in Fairfield, Calif. on December 2. The semifinals and state championship will also be held at Solano College that same weekend.
