Knights Get 14th Straight Win Over Cuyamaca
The Knights completed a season sweep of Cuyamaca for the seventh straight season after defeating the Coyotes, 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20), on Friday. The Knights have won 14 consecutive matches over Cuyamaca. with the last loss to the Coyotes coming on Nov. 1, 2006.
Jasmine Wong and Imani Griffin led the Knights with 12 kills a piece. Wong also added 21 defensive digs.
The Knights were tied up with Cuyamaca in the opening set at 16-16 when they turned it up offensively and finished on 9-1 run to win, 25-17.
Cuyamaca squeezed out a 25-23 win in the second set to even the match at 1-1, but the Knights regained control with a 25-22 comeback win in the third set. Cuyamaca held a 22-19 lead, but the Knights used a 6-0 run to catapult them to a 25-19 win.
Just like the first and third sets, the Knights were able to pull away at the end of the fourth set. They held a 17-16 lead, but finished strong once again with an 8-4 run to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.
Cat Wright had 38 assists to go with 9 digs while Jaclyn Kreymbord tied a team-high with 21 digs.
It was the Knights' fourth win in the last five matches. They improved to 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the PCAC.
The next match is on the road against Grossmont, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the state with a 23-2 overall record and 11-0 PCAC record.
