Even though the regular season doesn't start until late August, the Knights have gotten together for some beach volleyball. They recently defeated PCAC-rival San Diego Mesa, 3-2, in the quarterfinals of the off-season tournament.
The SDCC women's volleyball team snapped a 3-match losing streak by defeating Imperial Valley, 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18), in the final match of the 2012 season. The win improved the Knights' overall record to 9-9 and PCAC record to 6-6.
The Knights got their second win in a row after sweeping Southwestern, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-19), on Wednesday. It was also the 10th straight win over Southwestern, a streak that dates back to the 2007 season.
Jasmine Wong and Tessa Butterfield both recorded double-doubles as they each had 10 kills and 15 digs. Butterfield also added five service aces on the night.
Sophomore Tessa Butterfield led the Knights with 21 kills, freshman Imani Griffin added 13 kills, and freshman Elemy Yeme recorded 25 digs, as the Knights defeated Palomar 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 16-25, 15-10) at home on Friday night.

After being given Honorable Mention for the last two weeks, Tessa Butterfield was named Athlete of the Week by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference for the week ending on September 23.
Butterfield had 16 kills, 13 digs, and four service aces in a 3-1 win over Rio Hondo and 19 kills, 13 digs, and three aces in a 3-1 loss to South Mountain of Phoenix, Ariz. She also led the Knights to two-set victories over Desert and Cerro Coso in pool play at last weekend's SDCC Tournament.
Tessa Butterfield had 19 kills and Elemy Yeme was strong defensively with 40 digs, but the Knights were defeated, 3-1, by the South Mountain Cougars from Phoenix, Ariz.
