General Guidelines:

• Food & Drink: Eating or drinking inside the LRC is not permitted.
• Animals: Except service animals, animals are not allowed in the LRC.
• Talking: Please keep noise to a minimum while working. Use group study rooms for study. Respect the needs of fellow students when in the LRC so as not to distract them from their studies.
• Headphones: Please keep the volume at minimum so you do not disturb others around you.
• Cell Phones & Pagers: Cell phone use within the LRC is not permitted. Please keep pagers and cell phones on "vibration mode" at all times. If you receive a call, please take the call outside the building.
• Valuables: Please keep an eye on your valuables. Do not leave books, purses, backpacks, or any other valuable item unattended as it may be stolen. The LRC is not responsible for damage or theft of personal items.

Computer Use & Wireless Access

LRC Computers

Computer use is restricted to currently-enrolled SDCCD students for school-related business or academic purposes only. Students may be asked to show their current SDCCD ID card as proof of status. Computers are monitored by library staff. Service may be discontinued at any time.

Word processing is available in the library and also in the Independent Learning Center (ILC), rooms R104-R107 on the first floor of the LRC.

• Research. The Library, on the main level of the Learning Resource Center, provides computers for word processing, Internet access, and research needs, including the Library's online catalog and several online databases.
• Homework. The Independent Learning Center, on the first level of the LRC, provides computers with Internet access and various software applications for students to complete course requirements as well as for word processing projects. Microsoft Office IS available on these machines.
• Printing. Students may print out documents using a purchased card from the card machine located in Room R208 (Copy Room) located on the main level of the LRC. Printed documents are 10 cents per page. The card machine takes dollar bills and does not make change.

Wireless Access On Campus

Hotspots on campus include Buildings B, D, L and P, the LRC, Cafeteria, Curran Plaza, Gorton Quad, and Harry West Gym. You may access the wireless code from this link: http://www.sdcity.edu/CollegeServices/LRCLibrary/CampusWiFi.aspx.

Use Policy:

• Access to the San Diego City College wireless network is limited to current students, faculty, and staff using their personal laptops.
• Please do not share the system access code with anyone.
• By using this web key, you agree that you will use the City College wireless system only for legal purposes, will abide by City College policies, and will observe applicable copyright laws. Violation may result in revocation of wireless privileges and/or disciplinary action.
• Please use headphones to play computer audio, so as not to disturb others.
• Use of the wireless network is at your own risk. City College is not responsible for harm to your equipment or person as a result of using the wireless network.

Security

• Our system uses WPA/PSK authentication.
• You should have a virus scan program on your laptop. For example, http://free.avg.com/ is free.
• Access code is case-sensitive and may include special characters, like punctuation.
• Access code may change without notice.

Problems:

• Troubleshooting is limited to reporting of City College wireless network outages only. To report a network outage, please call 619-388-3288 or email citylib@sdccd.edu.
• City College employees cannot provide help with laptop set-ups, not that we don’t want to, but we can't take responsibility for "experimenting" with your equipment. Please consult your laptop’s user manual for further clarification.

Access to Electronic Resources from Off-Campus Locations

All currently enrolled City College students, faculty, staff, and administrators must use their CSID number and last name to access our electronic databases from off-campus. You will be prompted for this information when you click on a link to a database or an e-book. Be sure to put in your last name exactly the way you registered for classes. You must be enrolled in at least one City College course during the current semester, and have fully paid your tuition and fees in order to log in.

Database Access Tips & Reminders

• Some databases require that your browser (e.g., Netscape or Internet Explorer) be set to accept all cookies.
• Personal firewall software (e.g. Norton Internet Security) may interfere with a database's user authentication protocol. You may have to temporarily disable your security software in order to connect to the database.
• If you have additional questions or need further help, call the Information Center desk at (619) 388-3288 during normal business hours.

Printing & Copying

Title 17 of the U.S. Code governs the copying of materials protected under copyright law. Click here for SDCCD copyright guidelines.

To make photocopies or printouts in the LRC, you must buy a print/copy card. You can buy print/copy cards in the following places:

• >The print/copy card dispenser on the main level of the Learning Resource Center, in front of the Copy Room (room R-208).
• >The print/copy card dispenser on on the bottom floor in R-105.
• >The Accounting Office (A-114) and the Bookstore sell print/copy cards for $3.00 (with $2.50 worth of copies and .50 charged for the card).

Be sure to read the directions on the poster above the print/copy card dispenser machine! (See photo)

To Purchase a Card: The print/copy card dispenser takes only bills, does not make change, and will deduct 50 cents when you receive a new card from it. It does not charge extra to put more money on an existing card.

To Add Value to a Card: Once the card is purchased, value may be added for the amount inserted into the print/copy card dispenser ($1.00 for 10 copies/prints). The Accounting Office (A-114) can also add value to a card

Cost to Print: Photocopies and computer printouts will be deducted from your card at a cost of 10 cents per page.

Need Change? - Remember, the print/card dispenser takes only bills. Currently no change machine is available in the LRC. You must convert coins or large bills elsewhere. Or go to the Accounting Office (A-114) to add value to the card-- they will accept coins, debit cards and credit cards as payment.

Room Reservations

Student Study Rooms

There are four study rooms available on the main floor of the Library, each having a whiteboard and a table with six chairs. To access a study room, please go to the Circulation Center desk to sign up and to have a staff member unlock the door.

• Student study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis for groups of two or more (except for R-106, which is for 1 or more).
• Rooms must be checked out at the Circulation Center before usage and are available on a first come first serve basis.
• A current CSID is required.

Usage Rules for Student Study Rooms:

• Group study rooms are to be used for studying only. They are not for conferences or tutoring by faculty, staff, or private individuals.
• During peak usage periods, group study room use may be limited to 2 (two) hours.
• A group can only use a room one time per day
• No food, drink, or water bottles are allowed in the LRC, including inside the group study rooms.

Anyone who fails to comply with the above rules or LRC and campus policies may be asked to leave the room and may be restricted from future use of group study rooms.

Conference & Training Rooms

The LRC rooms listed below are available for faculty and staff campus business. These rooms are reserved for activities such as meetings, seminars, training, and workshop presentations. Contact Josolyn Hill at (619) 388-3870 to reserve R-108, R-205, R-212, and R-301.

Note: Reservations for R-108 and R-301 require an orientation/instructional session on use of the multimedia equipment and/or software. Contact: AVCity@sdccd.edu for orientation/instructions (phone ext. 3418).

Internet connectivity and audiovisual support are available upon request. Please provide all details for software and/or equipment needs when making a reservation. Contact the Multimedia Center for AV arrangements via email at AVCity@sdccd.edu, or phone (619) 388-3418.

Room Descriptions

• Room R-108, Teleconference/Presentation Room. Seats up to 14 people around one large conference table. Whiteboard, overhead digital projection system, videoconferencing equipment, and Internet connectivity available. For orientation/instructions, contact: AVCity@sdccd.edu (phone ext 3418).
• Room R-205, Meeting Room. Seats up to 6 people around one table. Whiteboard available.
• Room R-301, Group Training Room. Seats up to 15 people at computer workstations, plus one instructor station. Whiteboard, overhead digital projection system, and Internet connectivity available. R-301 has NetSupport software for control of all workstations, including turning on/off, locking/unlocking down screens, and projecting sample screens on user workstations. Instruction sheet for NetSupport provided. Reservations for R-301 require an orientation/instructional session on use of the multimedia equipment.
