COURSE RESERVES

The Course Reserves is a special collection comprised of materials assigned by instructors. Reserve materials may include supplemental class readings, photocopied articles, videos and audio files, and sample tests. Instructors need to provide material for reserves, or if it is already available in the Library collection, it can pulled and placed on reserve.

Please note that processing may take several days until the material is available for students.

Print reserve materials are kept behind the Circulation Center desk, and students and other requestors must be able to identify the material needed by call number so it can be pulled by Library staff. Call numbers for reserves are listed in the Library's online catalog under the Course Reserves tab. To put print materials on reserve, complete the print reserve request form, print it out, sign it, and deliver it with the books to the Circulation Center in the Library, located on the main level of the Learning Resource Center.

Media reserve materials
are kept in the Independent Learning Center in R105, accessible by ILC staff only. Students and other requestors must be able to identify the material needed by call number so it can be pulled by Library staff. Call numbers for reserves are listed in the Library's online catalog under the Course Reserves tab. To put media materials on reserve, print out the  media reserve request form, complete it, sign it, and deliver it with the media materials to Room R105 in the Independent Learning Center, located on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center.

REQUEST LIBRARY INSTRUCTION (FACULTY ONLY)

The Library's classroom is located on the main level of the Learning Resource Center, Room R209.

Faculty in all disciplines are encouraged to bring their classes in for research instruction prepared specifically for your students. These 90 minute +/- sessions cover the basics of research and includes librarian-directed hands-on experience.

To schedule your session, please submit the  Library Instruction Request form below at least two weeks in advance of your requested date via email to cwithers@sdccd.edu or in person at the Information Desk in the LRC. Please contact Carol Withers (388-3871) with any questions.

Please choose *one* of the following two options to submit the Library Instruction Request Form:

  • Complete and submit the web form online (it automatically forwards to the Library Information Desk);
  • Download, complete, and email the Word doc to Carol Withers at cwithers@sdccd.edu.

The purpose of Library Instruction is to enable Library users to develop the capability to retrieve information from a variety of resources and in a variety of formats. The Library Instruction program involves the Library faculty who provide instruction for individual classes. Each instruction session is tailored to the subject, topics and assignment identified by the classroom instructor. Students learn to search the San Diego City College Library Catalog, Electronic Databases and other information resources.

Instruction sessions/orientations are taught by appointment and may be scheduled for any regular class meeting time. Instructors must accompany their classes during the orientation, or make arrangements for a substitute instructor to do so.
