The San Diego City College Student Success Peer Mentoring program focuses on students supporting students. It also provides many benefits to both the mentor and student
Student Success Mentors assist First Year Students by:
- Enhancing the academic success of the mentee
- Encouraging positive self discovery through campus involvement
- Assisting mentees by helping them navigate appropriate college support services
- Increasing cohort community through programs and activities
At San Diego City College we provide two opportunities for continuing students to be hired as student success peer mentors. Some of our mentoring positions are paid at an hourly rate, or through Federal Financial Aid Work Study. Others are offered as non paid internships. The paid opportunities are limited, and hiring decisions are made based on interviews to determine the best qualified applicant.

Student Success Peer Mentors are required to attend an initial training and two other training sessions in the Fall and Spring semester. The Initial occurs in the Summer prior to the start of the Fall and prior to Student Success Day. Prior to the training session, Student Success Peer Mentors are required to complete a pre-test. Once the training is completed, the mentors are asked to complete the check on learning post test and submit feedback on the training sessions by using the following forms:
