Personal Information:

I was born in Lima, Perú.  My husband is from Chihuahua, Mexico. I have three children

I got my degrees from SDSU

My passion is teaching

 My philosophy about teaching:

As a foreign language teacher, I believe classroom curriculum should be authentic and relevant to students’ lives. I view each student as an individual that has different learning styles; therefore; I try to integrate technology making my lessons more appealing to students. I use a variety of approaches and methods, but I emphasize a lot on the communicative approach because I believe that communication is the heart of a second language.

Methodology:

In my classes, students play games, write stories, create books, work in groups and in paired activities, and act out skits in the classroom. In addition to covering grammar and syntax, students learn about the different cultures by exploring the Internet and doing research on different cultural holidays and customs. Music and art is also brought in as part of the discovery of the language.

In my classes: YOU WILL LEARN and HAVE FUN

Students’ Comments:

This class is definitely the #1 recommended class!

You will learn a lot, and you will be well prepared for the next level

You will learn the culture of Latin America along with their music

She is never late and finishes her classes early

She explains grammar until you understand

She will work with you, when you have time

Evelia makes learning interactive

She will give a CD with the most popular Spanish music

  • I am writing to express my gratitude to you as a teacher.  I have enjoyed this semester very much.  I have learned some basics in Spanish and will continue to study, David Niddrie (Lawyer)
  • If you sing up for Mrs. Talamantes class you will experience a great environment and life time experience and you will be able to understand the language. Deanna Voss
  • In Evelia Talamantes’ class tension is never in the air. She has a presence that eases the most unnerved person. She explains the Spanish language in laymen’s terms, for a clearer understanding. I especially enjoy her method of taking a test, then having a fiesta afterwards for 15 minutes. Bianca Villareal
