Math Center

Welcome to the Math Center!

Whether you are here to complete a Math Center course, for general tutorial support in Math, to take a make-up test, or simply to study or complete homework assignments, the Math Center strives to provide resources in an environment that is conducive for learning.

The Math Center, located on the second floor of the Academic Success Center (Room L-208) is the classroom setting for Hybrid Math 15 series courses as well as a general tutorial facility accessible to students taking a math course at City College.  Our facility is composed of the following:

  • A 60 workstation main computer lab offering limited access to selected math-related websites (including MyMathLab, MyMathTest, Aleks, StatCrunch, and Virtual TI-84 Graphing Calculators)
  • A 20 workstation testing room / computer lab for test proctoring services
  • A smaller workroom where we hold weekly developmental math level workshops (Math 38/46/96)
  • A quiet study area for students looking for a distraction-free environment
  • A study area for one-on-one tutoring

Additionally, we offer tutoring services in two formats:

  • On-the-fly support: On-demand service for any student who has a quick question (e.g. help on some homework problems).  Just come into the main computer lab , raise your hand, and a tutor will come by to help.
  • One-on-one support: One-to-one sessions with a tutor to address math support in greater depth (e.g. review before an exam, or go over a returned test to discuss problems missed).  Sessions vary between 25 - 40 minutes, depending on the demand for that day.  Speak with a front desk staff to request a one-on-one session.

To access services in the Math Center, all students must present their SDCCD CSID to the front desk staff upon entering or leaving.

Click on Programs for additional information.

While our facility and services are open to all City College math students, first priority access is given to students taking one of the Math Center Math 15ABC courses.  As such, the Math Center, our classroom space for the Math 15 courses, is subject to all rules and regulations as any other math classroom (e.g. cell phone usage is prohibited; no visitors; no food or drinks allowed in the Math Center; disruptive students will be asked to leave the Math Center, with possible further disciplinary actions taken, etc). For more information, please refer to Student Code of Conduct section of Policy 3100 of the SDCCD Board of Trustees Policy.
