101 Descriptive Astronomy 3
hours lecture, 3 units
Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass Option
This course is an introductory survey of contemporary astronomy. Topics
covered include the solar system, stars and stellar evolution, the Milky
Way galaxy and cosmology. This course is designed for students planning to
take advanced courses in the Physical and Earth Sciences and for transfer
students planning to major in astronomy. (FT) Associate Degree Credit &

Observing 3 hours lab, 1 unit
Letter Grade or Credit/No Credit Option
Corequisite:
Completion of or concurrent enrollment in Astronomy 101 with a grade of
“C” or better, or equivalent.
This laboratory course, emphasizing field experience, includes
constellation study, interpretation of celestial cycles, and descriptive
observations (with and without telescopes) of a wide variety of
astronomical objects and events. The course is designed to supplement
Astronomy 101 as a general-education laboratory course in the natural
science area. (FT) Associate Degree Credit & transfer to CSU and/or
