Course Descriptions

101 Descriptive Astronomy 3 hours, 3 units
An introductory survey course to develop an appreciation of contemporary astronomy. Topics include the solar system, stars and stellar evolution, the milky way galaxy, and cosmology. Supplemented by films and/or field trips. Transfer Credit: CSU and/or private coll/univ.; UC.

109 Practice in Observing 3 hours lab, 1 unit
Corequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in Astronomy 101.
Includes constellation study, use of astronomical coordinates and descriptive observations of celestial objects with telescope. Field trips will be required. Transfer Credit: CSU and/or private coll/univ. UC Transfer Credit: Astronomy (ASTR) 109 and 111 combined: maximum credit, one course.
