Course Descriptions

100 General Geology 3 hours, 3 units
Advisory: English 56 with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent, or Assessment Skill Level R5.
Pursuit of understanding the physical characteristics of the earth as a whole and its past, present and future evolutionary processes. Unifying concepts such as plate tectonics and its implications, the magnitude of geologic time, uniformaterianism, and the ramifications of the fossil record will be explored. Transfer Credit: CSU and/or private coll/univ.; UC.

101 General Geology Laboratory 3 hours, 1 unit
Advisory: Geology 100 with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent; and English 56 with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent, or Assessment Skill Level R5.
Landform, rock, mineral identification, map relationships. Transfer Credit: CSU and/or private coll/univ.; UC.

290 Independent Study Hours by Arrangement; 1-3 units
Advisory: Geology 100 and Geology 101, each with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent; and English 56 with a grade of "C" or better, or equivalent, or Assessment Skill Level R5.
Limitation on Enrollment: Must obtain an Add Code from instructor for registration.

For students who wish to study special problems. This course may be taken four times with different content for a maximum of six units. Transfer Credit: CSU and/or private coll/univ.; UC transfer limitations. See a counselor.
