Friends of Downtown Scholarships:


Academic Scholarship

History of the Award:

Friends of Downtown San Diego was founded in 1990 when Real Estate Professionals, Eve Hager and Felicia Bell, realized the importance of sharing information and ideas with others who care about the well-being and growth of downtown San Diego. This eventually led to several outreach programs to serve the local community. The group is comprised of a variety of professionals, residents, and business owners who work or live in the downtown community.

Awards:

Approximately 23 scholarships of $500 each will be awarded

Eligibility:

●      Must be currently enrolled in at least 9 units in an Academic Program at San Diego City College, with plans to continue next semester

●      Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA (High school GPA excepted)

●      Must be a U.S. Citizen or a resident alien

●      Must have a Temporary or Comprehensive Education Plan

Scholarship will be advertised: September 6, 2016

Application Deadline: September 30th, 2016 or the first 25 eligible applications

Interviews: All qualified applicants will be interviewed October 13th or 14th as part of the selection process. Recipients will be notified after October 21st.

Award Date: November 17th, at the San Diego City College campus.  All scholarship recipients to attend the lunch on the 17th to receive their scholarship awards. Nonattendance will, in most cases, result in forfeiture of scholarship award.

Career Technical and Vocational Scholarship

●      Must be currently enrolled in at least 4 units in a Career Technical and Vocational class at San Diego City College, with plans to continue next semester

●      Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA (High School GPA excepted)

●      Must be a U.S. Citizen or a resident alien

●      Must have a Temporary or Comprehensive Education Plan
