What services do you provide?
Peer tutors provide FREE individual tutoring
for most subject areas taught on campus and walk-in group tutoring
for high demand subjects as accounting, biology, chemistry, math,
and physics. (English tutoring is done in C-226)

tutoring, starting in Spring, 2005.
Free one-hour study skills workshops
are provided throughout the semester for both tutees and tutors
in such subjects as note-taking, secrets to mastering your textbook,
time management, proven test-taking strategies, effective communication
with your instructors, discovery of learning styles, guaranteed
ways to remember, and elimination of test anxiety. Check for dates
and times on campus bulletin boards, or call the Tutorial/Learning
Center at (619) 388-3685.
Are your services free?
Yes. Tutoring is a free service for all
students at City College and its satellite locations military
base classes and college courses at the Educational Cultural Complex
on Ocean View Boulevard.
Who is eligible?
Students must be currently enrolled in
the course for which they request tutoring. Tutoring is not available
for placement tests, making up an “incomplete”, 2nd
semester same open entry/exit courses, or adult center (CET) classes.
How do I apply for services?
Come to room R-212. Fill out the Tutor
Request form. Tutoring is available by appointment for most City
College courses for two hours per week per subject. Unlimited
hours are available for quick questions by walk-in for high demand
subjects, such as accounting, biology, chemistry, math, and physics.
Students can apply for tutorial assistance at anytime during the

Fall/Spring
Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Summer
Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM
– 6:00 PM
Employment as a tutor
If you enjoy helping fellow students while
reinforcing your own knowledge and skills, pick up an application
at the Tutorial/Learning Center. Tutors
are paid currently $9.00 - $10.00 per hour depending on education
and experience. Tutors set their own schedules from 5-30 hours
per week, depending on funding and subject needs.
Tutor qualifications:
1) Be a current student in an official
program of study, having earned 12 units of college credit
2) Have attained a grade of A or B in courses he/she is tutoring
3) Be dependable, patient, and able to work well with diverse
student population and staff
4) Have good communication and interpersonal skills
5) Enroll and participate in mandatory Education 100 – Tutor
Training course (1 unit, credit/no credit course, 2 Saturdays,
8: 00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., transferable to CSU)
