Guidelines Quick Checklist

Basic Standards and Guidelines and Requirements for Authoring on City's Web Site.

Ø       You must follow the same template for all “like” established sites – (See Core Sites Handout)

Ø       All of your web pages must end in .asp

Ø       You must have an all text duplicate web page for each web page you create.

Ø       You must update text only pages when making changes to existing pages.

Ø       Your all text web page must be named just like its graphic copy except you will add a txt to the end of the file name.
Example: guidelines.asp  -  guidelinestxt.asp

Ø       You must include the college navigation on the top and bottom of all of your pages.  (*note there will be one INCLUDE file for text-only pages and one for graphic pages).  This will be specific include code; you cannot add the navigation html and JavaScript directly to your page. (See INCLUDE Handout)

Ø       Keep your pages default alignment and use no page background colors.  Table background colors are allowed.

Ø       Keep your page within 790 to 1000 pixels wide.  100% is ok but you really need to be experienced to make sure it looks good on all resolutions.

Ø       Do not use animated clipart – (See Netiquette Handout)

Ø       Use clipart sparingly – it increases load time, looks amateur in most cases, and doesn’t assist in delivering the message – (See Netiquette Handout)

Ø       Use small jpg files for images that relate to your site

Ø       Do not add video or graphics that increase the load time unless they are a very important part of delivering your message –  (See Netiquette Handout)

Ø       Do not use under construction images or statements - (See Netiquette Handout)

Ø       Please use our CSS on all of your pages (very advanced authors working on new areas can develop their own as long as they stay within the standards and guidelines) (See Core Sites Handout)

Ø       Keep your fonts within a range of  8pt, or 10px to 14pt or 16px, and never use a serif font (Times New Roman) under size 10pt or 12px

Ø       Use san serif fonts (Arial, Helvetica, Verdana). Use serif fonts sparingly for titles

Ø       Please compliment the college navigation when designing your pages.  We use #990033, #21537A and #FCEA91 for our main colors.

Ø       Please keep your site updated by sending in the URL and update to the webmaster or by updating it yourself if you have permissions - if it has outdated content by more than 30 days it can be removed from our site.

Ø       Make sure your pages load in 35 seconds or less on a 56k connection

Ø       Don't add counters to your pages

Ø       Last revision date and author information (e-mail, name) on your home page and at least your e-mail and name on the bottom of every page

Ø       The Webmaster is responsible for the design of the web site. I will edit formatting and design on an as needed basis to keep within the college standards and guidelines.
