This course has been designed for students with disabilities. Designed to allow disabled students to develop in-depth knowledge of adaptive computer devices in preparation for mainstream classes. Credit for this course will not apply to the associate degree.

DSPS 027 Career Planning for the Disabled

This course has been designed for student s with disabilities. Assists the disabled student in the process of developing and pursuing goals for employment and identifies community, state, and national sources of assistance. Involves the use of a wide array of interest and aptitude materials and prepares students to meet the psychological, social and intellectual demands of employment.

DSPS 034 College Success Seminar
1 hour lecture, 1 unit
Credit/No Credit Only

This course is designed for students with disabilities. It provides orientation to college
campus, policies and procedures and an introduction to support services at the college and in the community. Included is the clarification of student goals and objectives resulting in the development of an individual education plan and the identification of courses, services and programs that will lead to college success. Credit for this course will not apply to the associate degree.

DSPS 038 Math Strategies for the Learning Disabled
3 hours, 3 units

This course has been designed for students with learning disabilities. A strategies-oriented course developing competence with basic mathematical operations, including whole numbers, mixed numbers, fractions and decimal fractions. This course will prepare students for Mathematics 32. Credit for this
course will not apply to the associate degree.

DSPS 040 Individual Education Planning

This course has been designed for students with disabilities. An individualized course designed to assess the disabled student's needs for special assistance in the community college setting and to assist him/her in planning appropriate educational goals and in selecting and/or preparing for college classes. Credit for this course will not apply to the
associate degree.

DSPS 041 Introduction to Applied Study Skills and Strategies
0.5 hour lecture, 2 - 3 hours lab, 0.5 - 1.5 units
Credit/No Credit Only

This course is designed for students who are enrolled in a college course in which they have a verified disability related limitation. It is recommended for students who would benefit from formal assessment and small group instruction in applied study skills and learning strategies. The course provides guided instruction in the application of study skill strategies to a mainstreamed course. The focus of the course is on developing generalized study skills that (1) relate to successful learning in the community college setting and (2) that can be altered
through individual effort and instruction. Individually guided practice of study skills is supported in an individual and/or small group setting. This course may be taken for lab credit four times with different content for a maximum of four units. Credit for the course does not apply to the associate degree.

DSPS 043 Advanced Applied Study Strategies
2 - 3 hours lab, 0.5 - 1 unit

This course is intended primarily or students needing advanced academic disability related support in addition to the campus wide academic support services currently available. The focus of this class is to provide individualized study assistance for students in mainstream degree applicable college classes. Emphasis is placed on the application of study strategies to a specific course. Both study strategies and assistive technology are utilized to meet the demands of a mainstream course content. Computer assisted instruction is used to review related basic skills instruction and to support research skill development. This course may be taken four times with different content for a maximum of four units. Credit for the course does not apply to the associate degree.

DSPS 048 Effective Sentence Writing and Grammar
2 - 3 hours lecture, 1.5 – 3 hours lab, 0.5 – 4 units
Credit/No Credit Only

This course is designed for students with verified disabilities related to effective sentence writing skills. It is intended to prepare students for a more successful entry into the mainstream basic skills English curriculum. Strategies are emphasized that assist in the recognition of acceptable sentence structure and grammar. Sentence writing instruction progresses from simple to more complex sentence structures. The application of assistive computer technology is emphasized during lab instruction. Credit for the course does not apply to the associate degree.

DSPS 049 Writing Structured Paragraphs
2 hours lecture, 2 - 3 hours lab, 0.5 - 3 units
Credit/No Credit Only

This course is designed for students who demonstrate difficulty with written language. It is intended to prepare students who have a writing related disability to more successfully meet the minimum college requirements for multi-paragraph essay writing. This course is unique for the highly structured and sequential strategies applied to essay writing. Additionally, the course emphasizes the application of assistive computer technology for facilitating organizational pre-writing strategies, document checking, and written language fluency. Credit for this course does not apply to the associate degree.

PE 181A Adapted Swimming
3 hours lab, I unit

Limitation of enrollment: A physician’s medical release form is required. This course is not open to students with credit for Physical education 181, 181C, or 181D. This course is designed for students with disabilities to learn how to swim through modified swimming strokes based on their abilities. Emphasis is placed on practice in the fundamental swimming strokes, including water safety skills. Stroke analysis, conditioning and endurances stressed in the progression of the class. This course meets the SDCCD requirements. This course may be taken four times for credit.

PE 182 Adapted Weight Training
3 hours lab, 1 unit

Limitation of enrollment: A physician’s medical release form is required. This course is designed for students with disabilities as an introduction to progressive resistance training. Emphasis is placed on developing cardiorespiratory and muscle endurance, muscle strength and flexibility and a healthy bosky composition through individualized safe and beneficial exercise programming. This course includes exercises that focus on relaxation, joint mobility, body maintenance, and activities for daily living. This course may be taken four times for credit.

PE 184 Adapted Physical Fitness
3 hours lab, 1 unit

Limitation of enrollment: A physician’s medical release form is required.
This course has been designed for students with disabilities to provide students with opportunities for exercise and activities to improve cardiorespiratory, endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance and coordination. Activities can include walking, dace, rhythm activities, wheelchair pushing, jogging, exercise for joint mobility and relaxation.
