President - Dr. Ricky Shabazz
Dr. Ricky Shabazz joined City College in July 2017. He is an enthusiastic, student-centered leader with 18+ years of executive experience advancing academic achievement, educational equity, and diversity. He is a team builder with an accomplished record of improving access to higher education, developing collaborative partnerships, cultivating improved institutional practices, and promoting innovative solutions and dialogue. His mother was a teenage parent, and he was the first person in his family to attend college. He is a passionate, lifelong learner committed to the community college mission to educate a diverse community of learners.
Vice President of Administrative Services (Acting) - Roxann Solis
Roxann Solis is the acting VP of Administrative Services. She is a native of San Diego. The role of the VP of Administrative Services is to act as the chief business and financial officer for a college or continuing education program; plan, organize, coordinate, and direct a comprehensive financial and administrative service program, including fiscal services, budget development and management, expenditure control, purchasing control, student accounting, college cash management, facilities operations, maintenance and planning, facilities rental, capital construction, personnel services, technology services, print and mail services, safety and security, and auxiliary services such as bookstore and food services. The VPAS works collaboratively with the Vice Presidents of Instruction and Student Services.
Vice President of Instruction - Matilda Chavez
Ms. Matilda "Tillie" Chavez was approved in December by the SDCCD Board of Trustees to serve as City College's new vice president of instruction. Tillie brings more than 17 years of experience in higher education. She earned a BS in nursing from Arizona State University and an MS in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Tillie is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in higher education leadership at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Most recently, Tillie served as the interim vice president of instruction at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.
Vice President of Student Services - Denise Whisenhunt
Denise Whisenhunt is the VP of Student Services. Whisenhunt earned a political science degree from UC San Diego and is a graduate of the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America. She has served the San Diego Community College District in a variety of administrative leadership capacities for over 16 years, and now serves as the Vice President of Student Services at San Diego City College. The role of the VP of Student Services is to plan, organize, and direct a comprehensive student services program at a college or continuing education program, including Student Development, such as counseling, admissions, registration, veterans' certification, and student success services, and Student Affairs, such as student government, financial aid/EOPS, job placement, student grievance, and the disciplinary process.
