Objectives
of Department
The ongoing objectives of the department of Health and Exercise
Science are:
- To offer
students faculty/staff, and the community exercise and sport
options that will enhance quality of life and provide an understanding
of the relationship between exercise and wellness.
- To provide
a positive learning environment - which is safe, hazard free
and accessible - for a diverse student population who have varied
backgrounds, interests, skill levels, and educational goals.
- To provide
a quality lower division physical education transfer and majors
program with CSU articulated course work.
- To provide
a comprehensive Health curriculum for District General Education
and CSU transfer.
- To provide
a Fitness Specialist Certificate program that will enable students
to seek job opportunities in the fitness/wellness field.
Value of
Programs To Students
- Through
courses, guest speakers, field trips, the Fitness Specialist
Certificate program, and connections with San Diego State University,
municipal Park and Recreation Departments, and coaching organizations,
the department has created a community network that assists
our students in finishing their course work.
- The department
responds to job flyers and phone calls and assists students
in finding part-time or full-time employment.
- We support
the student by offering the Physical Education major transfer
for CSU every academic year.
- We provide
additional tutoring opportunities through office hours, class
time, and additional assessment practice in the fitness center.
- Students
who complete the Fitness Specialist Certificate program are
prepared to take the Exercise Leader examination under the American
College of Sports Medicine or the American Council on Exercise.
