The San Diego City College women's
badminton team defeated Skyline College, 14-7, to win
their third consecutive CCCAA State Championship.
The Knights, who have also won a
third straight Orange Empire Conference title, have not been
defeated during this three-year run under Head Coach Son Nguyen.
They went 12-0 in both 2006 and 2007, and finished 10-0 this
season.
The Knights will now switch their
focus to the individual championships (May 9 & 10) which will
also take place at Skyline College.

Knights Lose to
Saddleback in Playoffs
The San Diego City College Knights,
who finished in a second place tie in the Pacific Coast
Conference with a 9-6 record (27-16-2 overall), were swept 2-0
in the first round playoff series against Saddleback College.
The No. 12-seeded Knights dropped
the first game of the series, 10-1, and could not hold off No. 5
Saddleback in the second game either as they lost 8-1.
This was the second year in a row
that SDCC qualified for the playoffs.

POY Honors, Coronado & Garrett Named to All-PCC First Team

The Pacific Coast Conference
released its 2008 awards along with the All-Conference Team on
Friday and SDCC's own Erika Rangel was selected as Player of the
Year. Alexis Coronado and Natalie Garrett were also honored as
they were selected to the All-PCC First Team.

Badminton Wins
OEC for 3rd Straight Year
The
San Diego City College women's badminton team won its third
consecutive Orange Empire Conference title with a defeat of
Irvine Valley on Friday by a 21-0 score.
SDCC finished with an 8-0 conference
and overall record. It's the third straight season that the
Knights have finished the regular season undefeated. They went
10-0 the previous two seasons.
The Knights also won two
tournaments this season. They came away champs of the Grossmont
Tournament on February 29 and the Mesa Tournament on April 4.

George Tubon, a former member of
the men's cross country team at San Diego City College, was
recently awarded the 2007 Pepsi Scholar Athlete Award by the
California Community College Athletic Association. The award is
the highest student achievement honor awarded annually by the
CCCAA. The winners, along with the rest of the annual honor
roll, are selected by the CCCAA Awards Committee from
nominations made by community colleges throughout California.
Candidates for the Pepsi Scholar
Athlete Award must carry a minimum GPA of 3.5 and must also show
outstanding leadership as an athlete, student, or in other
college and community activities, as well as have participated
in two seasons of sport at a California community college.
