Tonya
Alleyne begins her second season as head coach of the SDCC
Knights. She began her coaching career in 1994 at Arcadia
University, a Division III college in Glenside, Penn. Alleyne
coached there until 1996 when she decided to take a year off
from coaching and became the Media Relations Director for the
Richmond Rage of the American Basketball League.
Alleyne returned
to coaching in 1997 when she became an assistant coach for the
University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks for two years. While
at USC she was responsible for working with the team's marketing
and community relations activities, scheduling, equipment,
scouting, monitoring the players' academic progress and
overseeing summer camps.
Alleyne then
moved on to Fresno State where she spent three years as an
assistant coach. Her responsibilities included recruiting,
coordinating team travel, scheduling, scouting, and
conditioning.
Alleyne
earned her bachelor's degree in Communications from Seton Hall
in 1991. Two years later she received her M.A. degree in
Corporate and Public Communication from Seton Hall.
While at
Seton Hall, Alleyne was a standout basketball player from
1987-92. She is ranked in seven different categories on the
Seton Hall career records list, including seventh in both
three-point field goals made (44) and attempted (124), eighth in
assists (312), and ninth in free-throw percentage (.732).
Alleyne was
born in New York, NY and was raised in Philadelphia, Penn. She
enjoys listening to music, water-skiing, riding her bike,
dee-jaying and currently has her own freelance video production
and post production business. |
