Head Coach - Chris Brown |
Chris Brown
is in his 18th
year of coaching at the Community College level. He began his career
in 1990 as an assistant coach at Saddleback College, located in
Mission Viejo California. During Brown’s seven-year stint at
Saddleback the Gauchos won two Orange Empire Conference Championships
and State Champion runners up in 1998. In 1995 Brown was selected the
first Head Coach at El Paso Community College (TX). Brown was
responsible for the successful start up of the EPCC athletic program.
The “Tejanos” rapidly developed and with a 23-20 overall record in
just their second season and advanced to the NJCAA Region V playoffs.
Brown is recognized internationally following the past six years of
service with USA Baseball. He served as assistant coach in 1999 and
2000 for the USA Youth National Team. Over the two year period the YNT
recorded 16 wins 0 losses and won the P.A.L. National Championship in
1999 in Stuart, Florida, and the Pan Am Championship in Monterey,
Mexico defeating perennial power Cuba 2-1 in 2000. Brown continued the
USA winning tradition as he was named the Head Coach of the 2001 World
Champion Youth National Team posting a perfect 8-0 record defeating
Venezuela 6-2 for the Gold Medal. Over the past three years Brown has
assisted the USA National Team through player selection and in 2003
was the Testing Director for the Youth National Team.
Brown enters his ninth season as the Head Coach at San Diego City
College. Over the past four seasons the Knights have continually
improved to a respected power in the Pacific Coast Conference.
In 2006, SDCC finished 16-9 in conference and 22-18 overall. The
Knights also earned a spot in post season play. Over the past
five seasons eight players from SDCC program have been
professionally drafted.
In addition to coaching Brown serves as an Assistant Professor in the
area of Health and Exercise Science at SDCC. He is a native of
Richfield, Ohio and graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene College with a
B.A. degree in History. Brown continued his baseball playing career in
1998 with the Sydney Metros of the Australian Baseball League. He was
a shortstop and leadoff hitter during the inaugural season of
professional baseball in Australia. Brown earned a Master of Science
degree in Physical education from California State
University-Fullerton in 1992. Chris draws support from his wonderful
family including wife Jennifer, daughter Kaeli and son C.J. |

Aaron Detty |

Aaron Detty
enters his fourth year at San Diego City College. He is the
first assistant coach and is in charge of hitting
instruction and outfield. He was also the head coach of the
San Diego Blackjacks 2005 to 2007 and former co-head coach
of the La Jolla Aces in 2004.
In addition to
coaching, Aaron has a Master Degree in Physical Education
from Azusa Pacific University and a Bachelor Degree in
History from University of California San Diego. He is a
former San Diego City College player 2001 to 2002, All
Conference Team 2002, and completed his playing career at
UCSD 2003 to 2004.

Andy Tirpak |

Andy Tirpak
enters his third season at San Diego City College. He is in
the infielders coach. He has been involved in baseball for
numerous years. He was an assistant coach at Southwestern
College 1988 to 2000 and 2005. He was also the head coach of
the Junior Varsity team and assistant coach at the Varsity
level at Francis Parker High School 2001 to 2004. He was
also the first assistant for the San Diego Blackjacks 2006
to 2007.
In addition to
coaching, Andy is a well known musician. He is a dedicated
individual and stresses living life with exuberance. His
ultimate goal is to help his student athletes’ move on to
the next level.

Chris Whitmore
enters his first season at San Diego City College. He is the
team pitching coach. Chris is also a former coach at El
Capitan High School. Chris gains his support from his family
and wife Jean.

Jerry Lauder |
Jerry Lauder
enters his second season at San Diego City College. He is
the catching coach and assists in hitting instruction. He
also has numerous years of baseball experience. In addition,
he served in the 3rd Armor Calvary during the Gulf War. He
is supported by his lovely wife Lisa.
