The
Lady Knights finished up their season on Saturday,
November 3 with the combined Pacific Coast Conference
and Regional championships. Once again, freshman Ana
Calderon led the Knights with an outstanding time of
22:18 on the tough Mt. San Antonio College course.
Calderon was closely followed by teammates Samantha
Alvarez, Danielle Bell and Mayra Pintor.
San
Diego City faced tough competition from conference
schools Southwestern, Palomar, Grossmont, Mesa, and
Cuyamaca, but with Sarah McGregor, Debra Lee and
Erendira Miguel rounding out the top seven for a
combined score of 119, the young Knights were able to
place a solid fourth behind state qualifiers Palomar,
Southwestern and Mesa and edged out Grossmont (127) and
Cuyamaca (130).
The
Knights will only lose one senior, Samantha Alavarez,
and will be looking forward to challenging for
conference honors and qualifying for state championships
next year.
Captain Closes Out Final City College Season With
Lifetime Best
Senior
and captain Samantha Alvarez finished out her final race
as a member of the Women’s Cross Country team on
Saturday. Ironically, the Mt. SAC course was the venue
for her first and last college race as a Knight.
Alvarez’s hard work and dedication to the program over
the past two years saw her time of 30 minutes, 8 seconds
from 2006 drop to 23 minutes, 3 seconds on this last
weekend. Alvarez is planning for a successful track
campaign before transferring to San Diego State.
