The Knights lost the first game of a
double-header on Tuesday to Ventura, 12-5, but beat Mt. San Jacinto in a
shootout, 22-11. City started the
game with four runs in the top of the first inning. Leona Reyna got
things going with a single which was followed by Jaclyn Hamme's home run
to left field.. Elizabeth Vaca was then walked and moved over to second
base on a single by Kristina Wetsel. After a a double steal by Vaca and
Wetsel, Hannah Shafer drove them both home with a single.
Mt. San Jacinto answered with six runs on
three hits and two errors in the bottom half of the first inning. Shafer
once again drove in Vaca and Wetsel in the third inning to tie the game
at 6-6, but the Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom of the
inning.
The Knights weren't done, however, as
they scored two runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth, four in the
sixth and eight in the seventh. Elizabeth Acosta started the game as the
Knights' pitcher, but Shafer relieved her in the third inning and
allowed three hits in four innings of work.
On the day, Hamme led the Knights going
8-for-9 with a home run, six RBI and a stolen base.

The softball team started the Glendale
tournament with two losses on Friday against Antelope Valley and East
Los Angeles, but recovered on Saturday with two wins against Imperial
Valley and Chaffey. Against
Imperial Valley, the Knights scored first with three runs in the third
inning. Freshman Casey Chang started things with a walk and then stole
second base. Tatjiana Vidrio sacrifice bunted Chang to third base and
Brooke Gustely followed with an RBI single. Leona Reyna then reached
base on an error after attempting a sacrifice bunt. Jaclyn Hamme
followed with a walk and Gustely and Reyna crossed home plate on passed
balls.
IVC tied the game with three runs in the
bottom half of the third inning, but in the top of the fifth, Reyna led
off with a single and stolen base. Hamme moved her over with a single to
left field and then Elizabeth Vaca smashed a triple to left-center field
to score both Reyna and Hamme. Vaca eventually scored the third run of
the inning on a two-out single by Hannah Shafer. Shafer earned the win
after facing 26 batters and allowing six hits and no earned runs.
In the second game on Saturday against
Chaffey, the Knights fell behind 1-0 in the second inning and the score
held until the sixth inning when City blew the game open with five hits
and four runs. Gustely started the inning with a single to left field.
Reyna later forced an error by the 3rd Baseman and stole second base.
Hamme singled in Gustely to tie the game. Vaca followed with a single
that scored Reyna for the 2-1 lead. Kristina Wetsel then singled and
Alyssa Ortega drilled a triple to left-center field that scored Vaca and
Wetsel. Shafer earned her second victory of the day by allowing only two
hits, striking out four and not allowing an earned run. |
