Gustely Named to All-PCC Team
Brooke Gustely, a freshman outfielder from Healdsburg, Calif., was selected by the Pacific Coast Conference to the All-PCC Second Team.

Although her season was cut short due to injury, Gustely still put up some noteworthy numbers for the Knights.

Gustely led the team in batting average (.362) and on-base percentage (.456). She had 25 hits, eight RBI, 18 runs scored and 18 stolen bases, which was good for second on the team.

Erika Beasley, Jenna Kirksey and Ashley Whitmore were also recognized as they were given PCC Honorable Mention.

Knights' pitcher, Beasley, completed 28 of the 30 games she started and had an ERA of 2.59. She recorded a total of 76 strikeouts on the season and had two shutouts.

Kirksey, the starting catcher for the Knights, was second on the team with 13 RBI. She batted .277 in 83 at bats.

Third baseman, Ashley Whitmore, hit .240 on the season and led the team in doubles with seven. On defense, Whitmore was third on the team in assists with 42.

Knights Finish Protested Game, Beat Mesa, 4-3
In a continuation of an April 1 game played under protest, the Knights were able to hang on for the 4-3 road victory over PCC rival San Diego Mesa in the final game of the 2009 season on Wednesday afternoon.

The April 1 game was protested in the top of the sixth inning by SDCC Head Coach LeeAnn Taylor after a Knights' run, that was originally allowed to score, was disallowed following an umpires' meeting. Had the run been allowed, the score of the game would have been 4-3 in favor of City.

After being reviewed by PCC Commissioner John Woods, the protest by SDCC was upheld and the teams resumed play on Wednesday in the sixth inning with a 4-3 score.

In the bottom of the sixth, SDCC pitcher Erika Beasley retired Mesa's side by getting the Olympians to pop out, ground out, and strike out. The Knights were unable to add any runs in the top of the seventh inning, but they did not have to worry as Beasley kept Mesa from scoring in the bottom of the inning.

The Knights' Olivia La Mar went 2-for-3 and had the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to right-center near the fence. Jaclyn Hamme and Jaime Hoff both went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Reyna later scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Hoff.

In the fourth inning, Hamme scored on a squeeze bunt by Aurora Tellez after getting on base with a triple to left field. In the seventh inning, Hoff added the Knights' fifth run of the game by scoring on a single by Aimalefoa.

Knights' pitcher Erika Beasley was in a groove throughout the game as she faced only 24 batters and allowed only one hit. Beasley also struck out five and retired 11 of the last 12 batters she faced.

Knights Lose to SD Mesa, 4-2
The Knights' offensive struggles continued on Friday afternoon as they were defeated by PCC rival San Diego Mesa, 4-2, in the final home game of the 2009 season.

Catcher Jenna Kirksey hit a triple to center field that scored Aurora Tellez. In the third inning with City down 3-1, Kirksey singled to left field and Olivia La Mar came home on a fielding error by Mesa's left fielder. Unfortunately for the Knights, that would be the last time they scored.

In the fourth inning, Mesa tacked on an insurance run on a ground-rule double by Krisarah Quichocho-Rosario.

The Knights final game of the season will be at Imperial Valley on Tuesday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m.
