SOFTBALL
Head Coach - LeeAnn Taylor
LeeAnn Taylor is currently in her fifth season as the Head Softball Coach at
San Diego City College and entering her 11th season
at the collegiate level. Taylor led the Knights to a second
consecutive post season appearance in 2008 and a 27-16-2 record. In 2007, she led the Knights to their
best record in their history (31-10-1, 11-4 PCC) and a share of the
Pacific Coast Conference championship. Also in 2007, Taylor was named as
PCC Coach of the Year for the second straight year.
Prior to City, she was an assistant coach at
Cal State Northridge in 2003 & 2004 where she helped lead CSUN to
consecutive NCAA regional play-off appearances. LeeAnn was the
Assistant Softball Coach at Point Loma Nazarene University from
1998-2002 and was honored to be a part of the 2002 NAIA National
Coaching Staff of the Year. During those five years, PLNU qualified for
consecutive post-season play and made two trips to the College World
Series, finishing runner-up in 2002.
LeeAnn is a native San Diegan. She attended San Diego Mesa College and
was named an All-State Second Baseman her freshmen year. She earned a
full scholarship to Cal State Northridge and as a junior her team
finished National Runner-Up.
LeeAnn earned a BA in Child Development from CSUN in 1995 and is
currently working toward her Master of Science degree in Physical
Education from Azusa Pacific University.
Jessica Charles is
currently in her first season as an assistant coach for the Knights.
Previous to coaching at SDCC, she was the Assistant Coach at Azusa
Pacific University in 2007. In addition she has been coaching an 18u
travel softball club since 2006.
Coach Charles graduated
with her BS in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University where she
was a standout 1st baseman for the Cougars from 2003-2006.
Then Jessica Mikesell, she started all 48 games her senior year and led
the team with a .408 batting average that included team-highs of 60
hits, 15 doubles, 4 homeruns and 35 RBIs. Over her career at APU she hit
.360 with 20 doubles, 3 triples and 8 homeruns. Coach Charles graduated
from South Hill High School where she lettered 2 years in softball. As a
2000 sophomore batted .300 and was named All-Valley Vista League first
team.
Pitching Coach - Stan Hunt
Stan Hunt has over 35 years of experience as
both a player and coach. He began coaching female softball players,
whose ages ranged from eight to 22 years old, in 1975. Hunt has taught
all aspects of the game with catching and pitching as his specialties.
Hunt has been a private pitching coach
for the last 33 years and has coached players who have gone on to excel
at several levels including district, state, regional, national, and
international. Over 90 percent of all his students have reached and
performed at the college level with many of them achieving post season
awards such as All-American Teams, All-Conference Teams, and Rookie of
the Year. Hunt has also coached Junior Olympic softball players and has
reached the ASA Nationals 19 times. From 2002-08, Hunt was the first
assistant coach of the softball team at UCSD where he coached both
outfielders and pitchers.
Hunt started playing at the age of 16 on
a very advanced Men's Major Fast Pitch team which constantly performed
at the national level. He also performed at the international level
while in the United States Navy. In the 22 years of competing at the
elite level of men's fast pitch, Hunt played in 18 ASA Nationals and 17
ISC World Series.
