Personal Counseling
All of us experience stressful periods in our lives at one time or
another. Counseling services are designed to assist students who deal
with personal concerns that might interfere with their academic work at
San Diego City College. Counselors provide students with a safe and
confidential atmosphere where they have an opportunity to talk about
their individual concerns. The counselors will help students understand
themselves, explore alternatives, reach a decision, or feel better about
coping with problems. When appropriate, a student may be referred to the
on-campus mental health services and/ or outside agencies.
Additionally personal counseling is provided to probationary and
disqualified students who are required to take the Academic Success
Workshop. Students referred via the early alert system also will receive
personal counseling sessions if needed.
These services are offered free of charge to currently enrolled
students, and can be accessed by making an appointment. To make an
appointment, please call the counseling office at 619 388 3540, or visit
between the hours of 8:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 3:30
pm and Fridays. Personal counseling is also available online since your
counseling experience is held in a secured meeting room in real time,
where you can hear the counselor speaking to you. If you want to make an
