The Center for Reading, Writing, Speaking
and Listening, English as a Second Language (ESOL),
and Critical Thinking
The Center offers peer tutoring for reading,
writing, speaking and listening, and critical thinking assignments in classes across the
curriculum. No matter what your needs are in reading, writing, or
speaking and listening, we can
help you! When you enroll in the English Center, you may also use the
English Center Computer Lab. We offer word-processing, internet
access, grammar programs, and more. While in the Lab, you may use the computers to do word
processing, use the internet, check e-mail, and even receive tutoring
assistance while you write your paper.
The Center staff and peer tutors serve San Diego City College and the
Educational Cultural Complex, and we are dedicated to facilitating successful
learning outcomes.
The English Center provides peer tutoring to students at no cost, in the
belief that student to student tutoring is a viable and advantageous tool
to facilitate the learning process. Our Peer Tutors are selected for their
subject knowledge, patience, and their ability to communicate and
encourage students. Our tutors are undergraduate and graduate students at
San Diego City College, UCSD, and SDSU.
Our mission at the English Tutorial Center is to provide high quality
academic and Career/Technical support to all City and ECC College
students. We believe that students and their learning experiences are of
primary concern, so we are committed to preparing students in becoming
independent learners who will succeed in academics and academic skills in
the collegiate setting. In addition, the Center encourages and fosters a
culturally diverse and inclusive environment and develops student self
esteem, confidence, and persistence.
