Professional Background:
I received a B.A. in 1983 from Goucher College located in Baltimore Maryland and a Ph.D. in Biology in 1989 from The University of California Irvine. I started teaching as a sophomore in college when I got a job as a teaching assistant in our introductory biology labs. I continued in graduate school. After I finished my degree I had part time teaching positions at Irvine Valley College, and Cal State Los Angeles as well as UC Irvine. I have been teaching at City College since January of 1996.

Research Opportunities For Students:
This semester we are starting a program with Dr. James Nieh at UCSD. Dr. Nieh does research with social insects such as bees. He is interested in how these insects communicate with each other about the location of food, water etc. San Diego City students have the opportunity to get involved in this research and possibly travel to places like Brazil to do research and to conferences to present the results of their research. For more information please contact me via e-mail or phone.
