Background:
Maria Clara Romero-Huerta is
currently a professor of Spanish in the Language Department of
City College, where she has held positions since 1983.
Her qualifications include an
A.A. in Liberal Arts from San Diego Mesa College, a B.A. in
Spanish and an M.A. in Spanish and Latin American Literature
from San Diego State University.
Ms. Romero-Huerta also taught
at Palomar College and worked as a Research teacher in
Bilingual Education.
For the past 6 years she has
been Director of Culture for the group 'Pena Andaluza en
California' and for several years was editor of the Bulletin
'Casa de Espana' which was published in San Diego, Ca.
Ms. Romero-Huerta enjoys travel
and has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, Canada
and the United States. A native of Seville, Spain, she
especially enjoys performing Flamenco in the Peqa Andaluza
group. Other than teaching, her interests include reading
Latin American music and dance.
She believes that learning a
language is also learning and understanding the culture and
traditional history of the target language. She has
implemented these beliefs into her curriculum and works
diligently to bring cultural activities to City College.
