BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

Discussion:

• Content area vs. education itself

• Teaching students what data is actually out there, how to assess it, how to critically understand/process it

• Direct vs. Indirect Assessment (Portfolio/exam)

• What a student learns is vague-want them to have/learn something that carries on to the next semester

• Teach students to solve problems, help them to better their communications skills, help them to understand what research means

• Lacking information, not intellect

• Basic ideas/skill levels important

• Critical Thinking-want them to question

• Expanding or broadening their worldview

• Religion as bias

• Engage in dialogue with respect to their opinion

• Assessment = Personal observation
Measured over time/not a semester-difficult because we don't get the same students

• You can measure content
What is it we say we “observe”?
Myths/folklore@ beginning of class (semester); use research to debunk it
End of semester-notice behavioral shift
top

• Have students self-evaluate

• Change of students' attitude in relation to things you bring to class. Listened, evaluated, recognized their position.
